Lamborghini has been making noise about producing a luxury SUV for years, but it’s now officially happening. The now confirmed car - due to launch in 2018 - will be called the Urus, and will be a production version of the concept of the same name which appeared in 2012 (above).

Whatever you think of these plans, they stand to make a huge difference to Lamborghini’s already rather rude financial health; the Italian company expects to shift 3000 of the things a year, almost doubling its current sales figures. That’s in stark contrast to the last Lambo SUV - the naff LM002 (below) - of which around a tenth of that figure were sold during its entire production run.

Naturally, a whole new model with big sales necessitates a hefty expansion at Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata Bolognese factory. Millions of euros will be invested to balloon the factory from 80,000 square metres to around 150,000 and create around 500 jobs. No engine or platform details have been confirmed just yet, but Lamborghini has revealed the car’s target markets, listed as the USA, China, the Middle East, United Kingdom, Germany and Russia.

So, now the Urus is officially on the way, what do you think? Can you cope with the idea of a Lamborghini badge on a luxury SUV?
