Harley Davidson Wants To Buy Ducati From VW, Report Claims

A couple of months ago, new agency Reuters reported that VW Group was mulling over a sale of Ducati. Now, it’s looking like Harley Davidson is keen to snap up Ducati.

A new report from Reuters claims that the American manufacturer intends to buy Ducati as part of a €1.5 billion deal. Harley isn’t alone however, as Bajaj Auto and other parties are also said to be interested.

Buying an Italian motorbike brand wouldn’t be a first for Harley Davidson. It bought MV Agusta and Cagiva for $109 million, only to sell up two years later.

Harley Davidson Wants To Buy Ducati From VW, Report Claims

Ducati has been owned by Audi subsidiary Lamborghini since 2012, but despite yearly earnings of around €100 million, it’s expected to be sold off as parent company VW Group seeks to cut spending following the costly dieselgate scandal.

Investment banking firm Evercore has been exploring numerous money saving measures. Could this result in Harley and Ducati - two of the biggest names in the bike industry - coming together? Time will tell.

There is a Ducati Diavel / XDiavel, which is sportscruiser and look one hell-of-a-lot better than this abomination above.

Okay, HD needs to stop considering even buying this. Mercedes-Benz had to save MV Agusta from the terrible work Harley did. Audi is pretty much letting Ducati do their work without too much VW involvement and look how great their line up has become ever since Audi ownership! If Harley wants Ducati, they need to act EXACTLY like Audi! Otherwise, since Harley screwed up the Erik Buell relationship causing him to create EBR and close down Buell, Harley has no business being involved with sport bikes. If Harley buys Ducati, kiss the brand’s current image goodbye forever.

Don’t be afraid, everybody was afraid when Audi was buying Ducati that it was going to ruin everything. Ever since Audi took over, the reliability of the modern day Ducati’s went up, the brand was left it’s own identity and behind the scenes there was a mayor overhaul and the influence of Audi is felt everyday in a positive way.

Harley Davidson is the worlds biggest Motorcycle brand. Ducati is Second when it comes to marketingvalue and as a brand (not value). Harley knows how to run a brand with it’s own brandvalues and marketing, so i thrust them (if they allready achieve to buy it) when it comes to leaving Ducati as it is.

Ducati is still, under the flag of Audi, as Italian as it was before when it comes to design, but now with German quality. A match made in heaven as far as i consider. Italian design and German engineering.

But don’t forget, it’s still a rumor and nothing is confirmed yet. But if they do end up selling Ducati, selling it to Harley wouldn’t be so bad.

If you want to be scared, be scared of bajaj buying that. You wont get much besides cheap quality, lots of plastic and rubber and poor perfomance figures
