Amidst turbocharger domination in the supercar world, 2019 will - believe it or not - bring with it an all-new naturally-aspirated supercar. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it won’t come from a major player like Ferrari or Porsche: nope, it’ll be the work of British company Ginetta.

The Leeds-based firm - known for producing racing cars for multiple categories - will be dipping its toe into the market with the machine you see in these two teasers, with the full reveal happening within the next few months.

Technical details are currently few and far between, but Ginetta is promising a carbon fibre tub-based car powered by a “race-derived” naturally-aspirated alloy V8 “designed and packaged in-house”. Like the 6.2-litre engine used in the G58 track car (below), we suspect it’ll be derived from an existing unit like a General Motors LS V8.

It’ll belt out over 600bhp, and send its power through a sequential gearbox. It’ll have a motorsport-like aero package, and…that’s all we know for now.

Speaking about the news, Ginetta chairman Lawrence Tomlinson said:

“We’ve come a long way in 60 years but we still believe Ginetta has great untapped potential. In the 1960s our G10 was a giant killer on and off the track, regularly beating Jaguar E-Types. Sixty years on, we’re again applying knowledge and technology from our racing programmes to build an uncompromised yet utterly capable road-going supercar.”

But who in his right mind would buy a random supercar over a Huracan or an R8. I can understand a hypercar, but supercar, ehh

Ginetta is hardly that random. They’ve been around since the 60s and has MASSIVE racing heritage.

Because the people who are in the market for a supercar often are in the market for many supercars. And if you already have a garage full of Ferraris and Lamborghinis, you probably want something unique.
Now, I don’t want to talk down these two cars, but as far as supercars are concerned, Huracàns and R8s are the opposite of unique.

If you’ve ever lived in Britain, you’ll know what a huge name Ginetta is here

Because Lamboraudis are pretty boring as supercars go? Enthusiasts don’t buy them. Enthusiasts buy these

Could the “race-derived” V8 be based on the 600bhp 4.2L Gibson V8 found in a lot of LMPs?

i think it would be pretty hard to make it reliable

Olivier (CT's grammar commie)

Seeing Ginetta make something with more than 500 hp is like seeing Lotus make something weighting 1700 kg
