Why McLaren is dominating the supercar market

This blogpost is my opinion about why McLaren is, in my opinion, dominating the supercar market.

McLaren is relatively new to the supercar market, having exploded on scene with the astounding, game-changing F1 hyper car back in the 90’s. Then, around 7 years ago, McLaren launched the 488/Gallardo rivaling 12C. The 12C was a good supercar, but was not game-changing or special in any way, and the Ferrari and Lamborghini both beat it in terms of the visceral and driving experiences. The 650S was McLaren’s rework of the 12C. Contrary to what many people think, the 650S/675LT vehicles are based off the existing 12C, and are not a wholly new model. The 650S was a huge improvement over the 12C, both in terms of looks and excitement, but it wasn’t until the 675LT that the model became well recognized as one of the best supercars. The 675LT got heaps of praise and excellent reviews, and sales were strong. The McLaren P1, a spiritual successor to the F1, was quite fast and exciting to drive thanks to its hybrid system. The McLaren 570S/GT/540C was also a huge hit, as it offered supercar speed and looks at a 911 Turbo price. However, everything changed when McLaren released the 720S. The 720S is fast enough to keep up with hyper cars like McLaren’s own P1 and the Porsche 918. It also offers amazing aerodynamic capabilities, and has a very modern and sleek design that not only looks gorgeous but also is very functional. The 720S’ interior is a huge step ahead of the 650 series, as it uses high quality materials and is more functional and luxurious than most supercars. Some reviewers say the 720S, although fast and technically brilliant, is a bit unexciting and not visceral enough to drive. To this, I say rubbish. The 720S has absolutely brilliant handling, and has a great exhaust note, as many Youtubers have said. To call the 720S unexciting is almost snarky. If a 720S is unexciting, then what is? The 720S destroys its way past the 488 and Huracan, and enters 812 Superfast/Aventador territory. The 720S is a bargain considering how good it is for the price of a 488. In fact, the 570S, which was originally designed to compete with the 911 Turbo, NSX, and R8, begins to push its way into Huracan territory. Overall, McLaren seems to be dominating the supercar markets. Oh, and McLaren won’t stop here, as they have announced they will make an LT version of the 720S. A possible 750 or 760LT would absolutely destroy all the current supercars, and may even destroy some hyper cars. Overall, McLaren has a very bright future in front of them, and Lamborghini and Ferrari better watch their backs.

they need to work on naming their cars better, a jumble of letters and letters don’t mean much to most

The numbers refer to the metric horsepower rating

Ferrari used unitary displacement as a name code during the ‘50s, now it’s engine displacement in litres and amount of cylinders.

in a nutshell: they’re pretty, are cheaper than most legends and faster than most legends (by legends I mean Ferrari and Lamborghini.
