Top 10 Good Cop/Bad Cop Car Chases On YouTube
We love a good car chase at Car Throttle. As you've seen earlier this week, we enjoyed watching Calvin Harris and Example trying to get away from the LAPD in their video for 'We'll Be Coming Back' but we also love watching the rozzers catching the crims on the telly.
We love a good car chase at Car Throttle. As you've seen earlier this week, we enjoyed watching Calvin Harris and Example trying to get away from the LAPD in their video for 'We'll Be Coming Back' but we also love watching the rozzers catching the crims on the telly. Here are 10 examples we found on our good friend YouTube, which showcase high octane chase action and also some top dim-witted traffic patrol moments.
10. Sore arms of the law...
On your first day protecting your country's roads, double check that you've got all the essential kit with you. These cops forgot the vital baton which they could have used to smash the window and stop the criminal from getting away. Instead they tried to improvise with their own arms. Rookie error.
9. Snow joke; turkey attack
If you have been stopped for something trivial like dodgy registration details or you look like you're not concentrating hard enough on driving, you could wish for some form of amusing distraction. In this video, The Fuzz seem to have stopped some drug dealers and might have had a near death experience with gunmen had it not been for a wild turkey attack. You heard that right...
8. Bonnet-bashing candy thief
Think the bonnet is just there to cover the engine? Hell no. The front end of this policeman's 4x4 is the new local hero after tripping up a candy thief and stopping him from making a quick getaway. He could have gone around the jeep but I guess he wasn't clever enough to realise that.
7. Pit stop
One way in which the police on the other side of the Atlantic stop criminals is something called the pit manoeuvre. Hit the rear quarter of the target with your squad car and it should spin out of control into a ditch or obstacle. Here's an example of it working absolutely perfectly which was spotted by a local news channel employee thanks to a bit of blind luck.
6. You spin me right round
That pit manoeuvre doesn't always work though, especially when the getaway driver is talented. Honestly, you'd think it was Top Gear's Stig driving in this clip with remarkable recoveries like those. With perseverance though, the cops got him eventually. Find out further down the countdown why UK cops are not a fan of this method of catching the bad guys.
5. Deflated Kiwi cop
This must be the single most embarrassing moment of this Kiwi cop's career. The aim of the stinger is to puncture the tyres of the getaway vehicle in order to force it to stop. Stingers should be deployed, sting the crim and then be retracted immediately. This officer left his stinger out which damaged his colleagues' car. What a tube!
4. Pitting win and fail
Now here's why UK cops don't like pitting. Sure these car thieves were caught on the motorway and we got to see some sick footage but it was at the cost of a couple of other motorists' pride and joys. Also, our police interceptors wouldn't want to even chip their Mitsubishi Evos and Focus STs.
3. Tank theft auto
We've all been there; Grand Theft Auto after you discovered the awesome tank cheat. You know what I'm talking about. Driving a tank on GTA is jolly good fun but witnessing something like this would be incredibly scary in real life. After totaling many vehicles and lamp posts, driver error managed to stop the madness and World War III.
2. Seconds from disaster
Annoyingly for our UK officers, this crim was in the right place at the right time. After speeding through villages at 100mph in a stolen Merc C Class Sports Coupe, he spots a level crossing with barriers down. What you should do is stop and let the train pass but he smashes through seconds before the train crosses. Had he arrived at the crossing seconds later, this video could have been very chilling.
1. Only in America
This video has it all. Big truck driven by a mad man, idiots egging him on, burnouts, fires, shunts and even gunshots. It may have a size advantage but this rig is a rubbish getaway vehicle. It's slow, the turning circle is huge and a single spark from the burnt out tyres could have set all of the load alight. The only way cops in the US managed to stop the thief was to shoot him in the face. Ouch! Amazingly, the robber survives.
