This Rolls-Royce With A Massive Wing Is A 4x4 Test Mule

Rolls announced earlier this year that it was building a 4x4. This test mule has been created to test out the new car's suspension, to ensure it's as smooth off-road as it is on tarmac

This bewinged Rolls-Royce might look like a GT3 car in the making, but that couldn’t actually be further from the truth. This is the first engineering mule for the Sussex-based company’s 4x4, codenamed Project Cullinan.

The mule is based on a shortened Phantom body, and it exists purely to test the new all-wheel drive suspension system. In the build up to the final car, mules will spend equal time on and off road, as Rolls wants to ensure the car provides the traditional ‘magic carpet’ ride on the loose stuff, too.

The aim of the mule is to test “on-road behaviour from suspension throw to high-bodied stability”, and will be driven on a huge variety of surfaces to ensure it’s smooth and silent on every single one.

Rolls wants to be clear that while this hints at the size of the new car, it won’t actually look anything like this mule.
