Last month, a Corvette-based car was launched by recently-formed coachbuilding company SV Motor Cars. At that time only renderings were available. Now, images of the actual vehicle have been released. Want to see it in person? You can check it out this Saturday evening in San Fransisco, CA, or at the Concorso Italiano in Pebble Beach on August 14th.

8C Competizione, 9 Competizione - there's definitely a relation here. That extends to more than just the name as well. While not a carbon copy, there clearly is a lot of 8C inspiration in the styling - particularly out back. That's not a bad thing depending which point of view you're looking at it from. To me, the car looks a lot better having made the journey from rendering to real life.

Beyond stylistic changes, the engineers at SV Motor Cars also made some substantive improvements as well .The 9 Competizione sheds 132 pounds off a standard Corvette’s curb weight and sports some improvements to the suspension and braking as well.

Two other things set SV Motor Cars apart from the rest. The first is price: a 9 Competizione can be had for $99,000, quite a bit lower than the usual prices in the $115-150K range. Secondly, the cars from SV Motor Cars are purchased turn key. SV Motor Cars purchases the Corvette, converts it and then sells it to you. I've always thought it was a bad business model for coachbuilders to have the buyer purchase the donor car themselves. As always, new companies like SV Motor Cars are a neat thing to see - what they'll come up with next is anyone's guess.
