When I changed to a new daily with unsatisfactory shifter action and more power, I actually started skipping gears sometimes. E.g. when I merge onto a highway, I may floor it in 2nd or 3rd and then pop it into 6th once I’ve reached a cruising speed. Skipping gears never occured to me before, when I used to have a nice Mazda shifter in my hand - I would even shift needlessly just for the sake of it.
I don’t normally shift with the car I use - because no power; but when I’m in a hurry to get to the hospital or pick up somebody or something, I use this: 2 @ 4000 rpm -shift- 4 @ 3200 rpm -shift- 5 @ 2400 rpm
When I’m on third, it’s usually like this 3 @ 4500 rpm -shift- 5 @ 2800 rpm
I find it real hard to rev match - so some tips would help.
I don’t risk skipping gears on downshifts, I use the brake and shift down when the rev counter hits 2500 rpm; like that my stop distance decreases quite a bit, but I stay in second with the clutch down until I come to a complete halt.

Sorry for the (probably) bad question but in rev-matching for this situation (of skipping gears) do you:
Hold the gas pedal for longer in heel-toe downshifts or
Find a certain RPM to rev the engine
Go to R for race while you are in 4th gear going 80+mph makes u go from 80-Heaven in just 6.9 seconds ;)
Didn’t “R” mean rocket?
I’ve heard that joke. It doesn’t let you do that tho… You’ll screw your gears up if you manage to pull it off.

Prefer the robotic, 1-2-3-4-5-6… shifting than any random pattern. No matter what.
Yes as long as your not down shifting you can skip gears
The manual transmission 2000s GTOs seem to think so; they sometimes don’t let you shift from first to second or third, unless you buy a bypass.
