Ironically, its revival has been spurred in a large part due to General Motors and the Chevrolet Volt. Nissan, however, has taken a different tack with its LEAF full-electric vehicle.
That car is set to launch soon, with the company having received over 20,000 orders (so much that they aren't taking any more).
But the LEAF is only the beginning. Nissan's Infiniti luxury brand is set to get a version of its own, and that model is being teased now.
It doesn't look anything like the LEAF, does it? And that's a good thing - luxury automakers need differentiation for their models.
The car has reportedly taken longer due to Infiniti's insistence that it be significantly different than the LEAF. Judging on this teaser, we think they have achieved that.
The car is due as a 2013 model, and Infiniti says it will remain true to the brand's performance values. It will be a 5-seater and likely have higher-end batteries with more capacity. This is enabled due to the car's much higher price point in comparison to the LEAF.
This a strategy GM is likely to pursue with an E-REV vehicle for Cadillac, the Converj.
We're looking forward to seeing the manufacturer's luxury offerings in the alternative fuel segment going head-to-head.
