Drive A Diesel? You’ll Pay More Tax Very Soon
If you drive a diesel in the UK you might want to look away now. The government is planning to sting you with extra tax – an as-yet unknown amount – in order to cover its pollution-reduction spending plans.
The extra tax take will be divided between local councils running areas where air quality is an issue, giving them the funds to make changes to road layouts or incentivise public transport – or even cycling. The whole idea is to get as many people out of cars as possible, and we don’t even know where to start with the level of rage this causes us. I wonder: have the legislators tried carrying a weekly shop on a bicycle, or arriving at work every day sweating like a pig in a sauna?
Parliament will look at changing the road tax system (again) in just a few months, to punish desel cars and vans. It’s likely that the payments for older diesels in particular will be ramped up. As an owner of a 10-year-old diesel workhorse, I’m one of the millions of people who could suddenly have to fork out a lot more to keep my car on the road.
The new tax system, which only came into effect in April, has been heavily criticised for overlooking plug-in hybrids priced above £40,000, all of which have to pay the £310 annual surcharge.

They sure ran out of ideas to milk money…what is next, bmw tax?
They wanted to make car owners whose cars have more horsepower pay more tax, but our government sent the guy to hell.
Dam dont say that I have a 2005 BMW 330cd convertible haha id be double raped.
Meanwhile in holland: hah ur so late with this
Gas turbine hybrids are the way forward!!! Think Vauxhall amper but with a turbine running a generater instead of a piston engine. The weight saving would mean you might still have cars like the mx5 because they wouldn’t need to be made over heavy with batteries.
Could also retro fit trucks and buses with turbo- electric systems to make them more efficient. Kerosene also burns cleaner than diesel!
Any takers to crowd fund this idea? 👍👍
No. Only thing I’m crowdfunding is EV development. But that’s due personal reasons.
Can everyone just move to Mars or something
There is a brand new song by Fil Tilen. (Croatian singer) about moving to Mars. Hahahahah
Sorry I had to

If they make them look normal and not like from the future it is at least somehow better.
I don’t know why manufacturers think they need to make the electric cars look like fricking spaceships. (BMW i8 etc.)
When they ban diesel and petrol cars in 2040 the government will need to find a new way to tax us as they won’t get any money from fuel taxation
Probably something like battery tax, weight tax and KW tax.
So, you tell me if I am correct. The government says diesels are good, people buy diesels. Then the government says diesels are bad and makes diesel owners pay bigger taxes (therefore they make munnies). So, what do the people do with the diesels? They won’t sell them, because everyone has been told that diesels are bad and they won’t buy them. They won’t want to use them, because of taxes. So, only way is to sell them in other countrys I suppose?
Get them to Serbia we are all about diesels here :-D. 2.0 audi A6 for me please. Or audi TT diesel been looking for that one too long
Diesels were bad all along, whatever the government said.
You know what is gonna happen? When everyone will start buying petrol cars, where will the diesel go? The diesel will stock up, and what happens when something is a lot and not used? That is right, prices drop. And what happens when prices drop? People start buying it. And when that happens, diesels will be back probably.
“The whole idea is to get as many people out of cars as possible, and we don’t even know where to start with the level of rage this causes us.”
When every idiot who supports this idea will give up their car then I’ll stop driving. Until then won’t happen.
After years of pushing diesels onto people? It’s suddenly become very very clear. I’ll be staying far away from buying an electric car then, as that’s the newest thing they’re pushing on people, and will inevitably be taxed to high hell in years to come.
