The BMW i6 Is Set To Be A Big Electric Crossover

Contrary to rumours suggesting the next 'i' BMW would be a saloon, a report in Car Magazine claims that the German manufacturer's i6 model will be arriving in 2020 as a crossover

Despite previous reports and rumours suggesting that it would be a saloon, it’s looking increasingly likely that the new BMW ‘i6’ will in fact be a crossover. According to Car Magazine, the i6 - which should be arriving mid 2020 - “was the star attraction at BMW’s long-term corporate planning meeting, the week before Christmas.” What we’re expecting is a fairly low-riding crossover, the clay model of which apparently bears a strong resemblance to the DS 5 hatchback.

So, that means the i5 render put together by the guys at Car Advice late last year (see above) isn’t far off what the i6 will look like.

The power source isn’t a dead certainty - after all, BMW’s current i range is made up of the electric i3 and the hybrid i8 - but the latest batch of rumours point toward a full EV rather than a hydrogen-powered car or a hybrid. With improved battery technology, we’ll be looking at a range that eclipses the 80 to 100 mile distance the i3 manages.

So, which would you have: an i6, or a Tesla Model X?

The render is of an ‘i5’, but the latest reports suggest we’ll be getting an electric crossover called i6

That render would have been pretty sexy if it was just a regular wagon…
