Bel & Bel Old Vespa Into New Office Furniture

As goofy as scooters can be, it's hard not to say that Vespas have a certain cool factor to them. They got that Italian style, and that whole "Roman Holiday" continental charm and all that. So hey, why not turn them into office furniture?

As goofy as scooters can be, it's hard not to say that Vespas have a certain cool factor to them. They got that Italian style, and that whole "Roman Holiday" continental charm and all that. So hey, why not turn them into office furniture?

So why take a perfectly good Vespa and cut it up into furniture? Well, for one thing, these are older Vespas. They're at the end of their useful life, for one thing, and these are the older Vespas, which means they were powered by those old air-cooled, two-stroke, single cylinder engines that weren't the best, environmentally speaking.

So a design studio by the name of Bel & Bel has decided to turn old Vespas into new office furniture. As you can see here, they can convert the leg shields from older Vespas into pretty sweet looking desk chairs. There's no word on price or anything like that, but you'd have to figure the work of Bel & Bel won't come cheap.

On the other hand, if I ran a design firm, or an advertising agency, especially an advertising agency based in Milan, say, I'd have a couple dozen of these things scattered throughout the office. This is just the sort of thing that high tone offices crave.

Other people too. I have a friend, Harold, who, in addition to being a painter of some note, also developed a serious Vespa habit recently. Goes on tours with the little thing, and uses it as his primary form of transportation, and since he lives and works in Seattle, that shows a certain level of commitment, weather-wise.

Anyway, when I came across what Bel & Bel were doing, I sent it along to Harold, whose succinct reply was, "oh daddy". Meaning that an idea like this will be a hit with the art crowd ... or knowing Harold, he probably already has a line on an old Vespa shell and is getting out the cutting torch as we speak.
