I love them. It is becoming future classic very fast, been tracking prices for quite a few years and they’re holding and even increasing value. In some countries, proper S3 now almost as R32 mk5 golf.
As a car, it’s basically a golf. Haldex quattro system, meaning that the car is fwd unless wheels start to slip, then I think 50% of the power can be directed to the back. If it’s not working properly, repairing quattro can be a bit expensive. 1.8T engine is good, some blame it for being picky for oil and similar problems, but maintained and cared one can last many thousand miles/kilometers. This is just the basis, I’m sure it has some typical issues or problems, but overall it’s good and reliable. Power wise it can outrun many hot hatches from today, I think it looks good and should be fun on snow. The only reason stopping me from getting one is the price, I can’t spare that much.

Better you buy something als Audi 100 or 80. These will get classics and they are now not very expensive.
