Ford focus st 225, has a terrible idle jumps between 6 and 900 revs constantly once warm, struggles to start once warm also. Have had the timing re done and had the vct(vvt) reset. Gonna change the sparks and leads this week, any advice would be great

do you have a check engine light ?
It does that since the timing change ?
It’s not missing any vacuum line ?
Did you do any other thing ?

There is no check engine light, I should point out that this is not my car it’s my friends. I have suggested vacuum lines but he seems adamant that it’s not. The car is also a catergory c, has been repaired the body work and frame are immaculate, the engine however seems to have a problem

u should also check following things,
was the timing redone properly? if the issue has arised after this u better check it?
use carb cleaner in throttle body and rev engine while covering intake for a whiel n then rev engine again, it will clear throtle body
yes vacum pipes can be cause, better match vacums from the pic given in the manual
and if the car has starting trouble after warm up then dear its all different issue

We’ve had the car checked by a separate garage, he’s said the timing is spot on. The starting up issue seems to be coil pack related. There’s also a hissing noise come from the back of the engine whenever we turn her off, so we’re going with a vacuum leak somewhere around that area as no fluids are escaping

Sorry I didn’t reply sooner but we’ve sorted it, believe it or not even though it’s got the stamps and receipts for a FSH it needed an oil change and new sparks that was it. The oil looked like it hadn’t been changed for about 30k!
