Although the Ferrari F40 was the 1st production car to cross the 200 mph barrier, many think it was the Porsche 959. Powered by 2.8L Twin-Turbo Flat-6 engine, it reached speeds of 194-197 mph but couldn't reach/cross 200 mph.
Even though I love the F40, I have to give all the credit to the 959. It may haven’t cross the 200mph but coming as close as it did with that engine compared to the F40 one is simply impressing.
Don’t forget this car had active raising and lowering suspension as well as 4 wheel steering at the same time, stuff other cars hadn’t heard of at the time.
Bigger turbo… problem solved 😂 just kidding. Still impressive.
don’t forget longer gear to achieve top speed
The F40 and the 959 are both legends in my eyes.
I also think the 959 is what started the whole holy trinity thing and I admire it for that
I’ll take the 959 over an F40 anyday, how often will you be doing 200mph. The 959 was designed to be a homologation car for Group B, I could put that awd to good use more often then the top speeds.
I love the f40 but there is a special place in my heart for Porches especially this one
