Subaru impreza 1.6

Are the imreza 1.6 liters good cars?
And do the have a timing belt or chain?
Also is it an interference engine or a non interference engine?
And how is working on them since i do all the work myself.

Well this really depends on what you mean by good. It’s all wheel drive so of course it’s going to stick to the ground like glue. It will be great in adverse weather and they have those cross bars that force the engine under you if you ever get in a front end collision. So you won’t lose your legs. All good things but it’s also going to cost a little more in fuel. Although this one is a four cylinder, it’s still going to run you a little more than others. They are known to develop head gasket leaks from the boxer engines and are prone to rod knocks.
I think this one is a belt, not a chain. Most are.
Also this should be an interference engine.

Correct me if I’m wrong here but I don’t think Subaru made many non-interference engines after 1997 but don’t quote me on that.
As for working on them. They aren’t too bad. No where near as difficult as a Mercedes but they aren’t Hondas either. It’s takes a bit but once you know the engine, you should be fine. Things like spark plugs are more difficult because of the boxer engine but honestly, I don’t mind. I love the performance that Subaru gives so I don’t mind putting out the extra effort.
