The history of the Porsche 911 GT2 and my prediction on the lastest version of the GT2 (part 1 of 2)
First, a history lesson on the GT2
Originally, the Porsche 993 911 GT2 was built, like many road going supercars of the 80s and 90s, for homoligation reasons. It had a 3.6L turbocharged flat six that made 430 PS (424 horsepower) and 540 Nm of torque (398 LB-FT). It did 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 183 mph (295 KPH). The 993 GT2 was built from 1993-1998
Next, the 996 GT2
Fast forward a couple years from the original GT2 then you have the 996 GT2. It has a 3.6L turbocharged flat six making 462 PS (456 Horsepower) and 620 Nm of torque (457 LB-FT). 0-60 was over in just 3.9 seconds and the 996 has a top speed of 198 mph (319 kph). The 996 GT2 was built from 2002-2005
Now to the most recent GT2, the 997 GT2
It has a 3.6L turbocharged flat six directly from the 911 Turbo making 530 PS (523 horsepower) and 680 Nm of torque (502 LB-FT) it had a top speed of 205 mph and did 0-60 in 3.6 seconds. It was in production from 2008-2012
Comments
I saw a gt2 with 1400 hp
Dang.
GT2 RS?
I thought about it. I might make it a separate blogpost in the future
My favorite 911 for all time is and will be the GT2!
Um, official the 993 is the 993 GT and not GT2
I have a bad feeling that the newest iteration of the GT2 will go the “PDK only” route, similar to the GT3 and GT3 RS. Which would be a real shame.
