1989 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ71
Here, I present my new old travel-tractor. It’s got a solid-axle chassis with leaf springs and the engine of a russian-cold-war bunker power generator. It’s a 3.5liter inline 4 turbocharged diesel engine with direct injection. (the first turbo injection diesel toyota has ever built) Those who are into 70 series LandCruisers know it under the 13B-T code. The 70 series Land Cruiser is the car that moves the world. It’s extremely reliable and drives surprisingly good. Ok, the ride is bumpy, but the seat position is fine, the visibility is incredible and it’s easy to drive once you’re used to it. The steering has an eight of a turn of play and it’s as precise as the steering of a container ship. The mud terrain tires are horrible to drive on the street and because of the weight of the tires and the bad brakes it also stops like a container ship. But somehow I love driving that tractor on the street. It somehow satisfies my urge to explore the world and to adventure. The go-anywhere character of the car is the most appealing thing to me. I don’t mind driving it on long distances. It does it’s 120kp/h (vaguely 75mph ) on the highway which is plenty enough for me. Last week I drove to Vienna and back with it, had no problems what soever on the 2000kilometer-trip.

Absolutely love it! You’ve treated it the way a Toyota should be treated.
