Exhaust melting through bumper???

I was driving my Smart Fortwo earlier when I noticed it started sounding like a fart cannon. Shortly after I noticed it was struggling to accelerate and revving much higher than it normally does. When I was able to stop I saw this. For reference, the exhaust is typically hidden under the rear of the car. I won’t be able to take it to a mechanic until Monday, but I’d still like to have some idea of what’s going on. I’ve had this car for eight years and this is the first major mechanical issue.

Something probably plugged up the exhaust, causing it to heat up and melt through the bumper

Would that cause the exhaust to move though? The exhaust is normally nowhere near the bumper.

Lift he car and check every exhaust hangar. I know that if the rubber breaks or comes off it could cause this problem. If it’s just a hangar go go to autozone and get you a new one

If you cant lift it, you can park with one side up a kerb so you can get under it :)

I took it to a shop and the muffler is broken open. I’m getting a new one in next week
