Reasons why not to get an Rx8 and running on LPG(Auto gas) gas.

Hey all, fortunately its that time in my life where my old car needs to be moved on to its next adventures elsewhere. Right now my current preference of cars is an Rx8. I know the reasons why I should get an Rx8, but I want to hear current/ex owners opinions why not to purchase one. Also assuming I were to get one, would I be crazy by installing LPG?

Don’t know about LPG, but 3 reasons not to buy :)

  • Fuel consumption
  • You need to be a fanatic of rotaries, read a lot and pay MUCH attention to maintenance - or you risk engine failure
  • If the previous owner neglected maintenance, engine rebuild will come eventually and that can cost a lot

Here in Germany the only good thing to buy LPG is that it’s cheaper than normal petrol. So if you have like a Cadillac Escalade or a Hummer H1 or something big, a LPG would be great. In the Mazda RX8 it’s a bit difficult. I saw in some RX8 forums: Most time you install the other tank in the trunk. And the Trunk is not that big, so you defenitly won’t have a trunk anymore. Also i saw, that it makes trouble. It switches a higher RPM to petrol again and then back to LPG and so on. That could damage the engine when it’s always changing. For first times you could get LPG on a rotary here in Germany. Now nobody does it anymore. I guess you have to stick with your petrol.
