This Is Our First Look At The New Land Rover Discovery

Teaser images have been released of the Range Rover-inspired Discovery. Here's what we know so far...
This Is Our First Look At The New Land Rover Discovery

With the release of the latest iteration of Discovery coming later this month, Land Rover has allowed the automotive world a sneak peak at its new take on the 4x4 legend. With many styling cues taken from the preexisting Range Rover, the new Discovery will take a more rounded form compared to its boxy predecessors.

This Is Our First Look At The New Land Rover Discovery

The new car is set to be powered by the company’s Ingenium 2.0-litre diesel, along with a 3.0-litre V6 powertrain which should be more than capable of shifting the now-lightened Discovery with its aluminium monocoque chassis. Continuing on from the Range Rover sub-brand featuring Sport and Evoque, the Discovery will be the largest of another series which will feature a Discovery ‘Sport’ Coupe and potentially a smaller crossover or SUV as an entry to the brand.

Although the new design is quite a jump from the last Discovery, it can be assured that JLR will make sure the new car is more than capable off-road with a tech-heavy four-wheel drive system.

Although it’s called the Discovery Sport, it’s actually an evolution of the Freelander.

I liked the old one better to be honest, it was in my opinion the only ‘proper’ Land Rover left now the defender has gone, it looks exactly like the Evoque, discovery sport and the Range Rover.

True, the previous generation had classy appeal due to the lack of sporting pretensions, the new car, no matter how good it might be, looks to be made from the new cookie cutter JLR mould

First it was just the Range Rover, then the Range Rover Sport cheapened the brand and it was anything but sporty, then the Evoque cheapened the brand a bit more, now the Discovery would cheapen the image (notice I didn’t say brand this time) a bit more. What next? A Range Rover styled Freelander?

The Discovery Sport already exists. So, no. Not next, previous.
