Here's Your Chance To Own A Very Rare, Very Orange Shelby Mustang GT-C

You’re very unlikely to see a fifth-generation Ford Mustang of any sort on UK roads. Unlike the current version of the Pony Car, it wasn’t ever sold here officially, and was produced in left-hand drive only.

To see something like this particular ‘Stant rolling around British streets, then, is a very rare treat. What you’re looking at is a Shelby Mustang GT-C.

A special version of the fifth-gen Shelby Mustang GT created for Californian dealers (hence the ‘C’), only 215 GT-Cs were made, all in Grabber Orange. The cars rolled off the Flat Rock, Michigan assembly line like any other Mustang, but were sent for special treatment at Shelby American in Las Vegas.

The specs varied, but this example seems to be nicely kitted out. Under the bonnet - which is finished with some lovely silver stripes - you’ll find a 5.0-litre supercharged V8.

It’s also fitted with a Ford FR3 Racing pack, which gives you new dampers, stiffer springs and beefier anti-roll bars. The car should also have a strut brace, although oddly, this seems to be missing on the auction page’s under-bonnet shot.

Inside, there’s a Hurst short-throw shift kit for the five-speed manual gearbox, complete with a natty cue ball gear knob. If - somehow - you get bored of the V8 noise, there’s a 1000-watt Shaker sound system to play around with. The finishing touch is a signature on the passenger-side sun visor from the late Carroll Shelby himself.

The GT-C has only one former owner - Manchester City footballer Vincent Kompany. He hasn’t used it all that much, with 2978 miles showing on the clock currently. It’s due to go under the hammer at Classic Car Auction’s 7 December sale in Warwickshire.

The estimate is £25,000 - £30,000, for which you could instead get a low-ish mileage pre-facelift sixth-generation Mustang GT, a car that will - for the UK at least - have a steering wheel on the correct side.
