Here's A Running Twin-Turbo V12 Made From A Pair Of Supra Engines

Just over three years ago, we stumbled upon one of the most bonkers engine projects we’ve ever seen. It involved sticking two 1JZ straight-sixes together to make a 120-degree V12, sitting on a custom-fabricated crankcase with a bespoke crankshaft. The engine was destined for a home-brewed hot rod, and the target was 800bhp - a figure which would be reached with the help of two Garrett turbochargers.

It’s been a while since we last saw an update, but as you can see from the video above, the 5.0-litre beast now runs, and it’s a glorious sight to behold.

There are also some images out there of the car the engine sits in, revealed to have a design reminiscent of Formula 1 cars of the 1960s. Once finished, we’ve no doubt it’ll look stunning.

Some of the more fiddly bits of machining for the block and heads plus the creation of a custom wiring harness was done by a Minnesota-based firm called Nth Moto, but other than that, this project is all the work of a chap called Don Groff. The point of it all? “I didn’t want a huge cubic-inch motor, and I realized those motors breathe really well - guys can turbo them and get a lot of power out of them,” he told Road and Track.

We can’t to see this unique engine being run in anger.

If 2jz can make a max of 2000hp… We got 4000hp v12 right?

So,two 1jz motors is a 2jz
1jz + 1jz = 2jz

All this math is wrong because of the way these are put together it isn’t 1JZ+1JZ = 2JZ it’s actually 1JZ + ZJ1 = 1J²Z²1… it’s obvious if you watch the video.
