Since debuting in 2015 at the age of just 17, Max Verstappen has gone on to establish himself as one of the most exciting and most promising talents in F1.
Driving for Red Bull hasn’t exactly allowed him to challenge the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel for outright title glory yet (thanks to a combination of lack of speed from the car and truly awful reliability), but there were a few occasions this year where he showed that he can now absolutely be talked about in the same breath.
Some of those moments happened at the start of races and on the first lap, and rferrerf1 has compiled many of them into this video. The highlight surely has to be his superb feel and bravery in the damp conditions of Shanghai (the first clip, where he started 16th and finished third), though several others run it close.
It’s not all about the highs though as he’s had a few first lap lows as well. His race came to an end on the first lap on quite a few occasions, none of which were really his fault. One that definitely was his fault though was when he committed motorsport’s cardinal sin and punted out Daniel Ricciardo - his own teammate - in Hungary. Whoops…
