ECU delete

So either my o2 sensor went bad after 2k miles or my ecu is scrapping out. If it’s the ECU it’s not worth replacing with a used one so I may just run without one.
I figured a MSD ignition and a bunch of hardwiring for pumps, fans, etc hooked up to switches would do the trick.

Thoughts?

Anything I’m missing or overlooking?

Bueller…. Bueller?

You will still need an ECU to run the car, be it stock or aftermarket - MSD, MegaSquirt and so on. Just go to the wreckers and pull one one or two ECU’s matching your year and transmission (LH2.4 I suppose). Going to cost you $25 per unit tops and will take a short time to install as opposed to going full custom or carbureted if, for some weird reason, you really don’t want an ECU in your car. Gotta love the wreckers - they keep my cars running for almost no expense, except for my time of course.

There’s no good places like that around here, and any that do charge ten times what the part is worth. Unless I’m going to drive a few hours for the parts, my options are limited.

Bad idea. I’d recommend getting a rebuilt or used unit if all possible. I go to a Volvo specialized mechanic in Augusta, ME and he might have a ton laying around. If you’re interested, I could give you his contact info.

That might be helpful, thank you. The issue I’m having is that the best I can get is $800+ for a used one that “may or may not work” lol

I can hard wire the fans, fuel pumps, etc and control ignition timing and everything including the air/fuel ratio to an extent through the throttle linkage. The ECU on the 240 is prehistoric so it’s not as difficult or complicated as it would be on any other car of the same year range.
