A Helicopter Ride Over Le Mans Puts The Incredible Speed Of The Cars Into Perspective

While at Le Mans a couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to get a chopper ride over the circuit on the Sunday morning. Here's the footage from the incredible flight

During this ride over Circuit de la Sarthe, two things were made abundantly clear: firstly, the sheer scale of the 8.4 mile track, and secondly, the massive speed of the cars - particularly the LMP1 machines. With such a wide field of view you can see the competitors covering ground at an incredible rate, and wherever the track strays close to open roads, the speed differential between normal traffic and the racing cars is immense.

If you ever get a chance to take a helicopter ride over Le Mans - or any live race track, for that matter - go for it, it’ll be an unforgettable experience.
