Whoa! Estoque Death Rumors Premature?
The plot thickens! Just this weekend word broke that Lamborghini's Estoque had gone to the chopping block, a victim of the economy and cost-cutting. Maybe that's not the case?

Lamborghini apparently found the rumors prevalent and concerning enough to merit a press release from the company addressing the matter the very first business day following. The comments in the press release are short and to the point. Here it is:
"In reference to recent press coverage commenting on cancellation of its Estoque project, Lamborghini has not taken any decision to produce its Estoque concept car, the four door performance saloon concept shown at Paris motor show in 2008.
As stated when the car was shown, Lamborghini believes that if a third model line should ever be added to its product line up, a four door luxury performance saloon could be a logical product strategy. No decision has been made to produce the Estoque."
Interesting! They didn't offer any new announcements about the car but sought to diffuse rumors of a certain cancellation. To me at least, this would indicate to me a high likelihood that indeed the opposite is the case here. While it's part and parcel for automakers to be vague regarding future product, it is unusual for a release to come out like this rebutting rumors in the automotive press.
So alas, the Estoque may make it to production after all. That comment saying it would be a "logical product strategy" is telling. Basically, if they are going to add a new product line, that most likely will be the Estoque.
The Estoque is a great design that holds a lot of promise in helping to expand the Lamborghini brand with a more volume model. Potential sales could be similar to Aston Martin's Rapide, around 2000-3000k units per year.
I wonder when a decision will be made? I'll be sure to keep you informed on anything else that might come out about this car. The super sports sedan lives (err...maybe).
