NCE's Camaro Convertible Conversion Nearing Completion

After some reports of the contrary, it looks like the official Chevrolet Camaro Convertible is back on track for a launch in 2011. For some people, that's too long of a wait, especially since it isn't confirmed right now (it's nearly ensured that we'll get one though, in my opinion).

After some reports of the contrary, it looks like the official Chevrolet Camaro Convertible is back on track for a launch in 2011. For some people, that's too long of a wait, especially since it isn't confirmed right now (it's nearly ensured that we'll get one though, in my opinion). Newport Convertible Engineering (NCE) is working to produce a conversion for those who can't wait.

The official model was rumored to have been put on hold due to financial problems with the German supplier of the car's roof mechanism as well as GM's own situation. Apparently that has been resolved now though, with the supplier and GM inking a new agreement for the parts.

So while GM is sorting things out with the Camaro Convertible, Newport has begun taking orders for it's take on the car. Work is being completed as we speak, with the first car being an orange Camaro SS. The color and SS trim level is the same as Chevrolet's official Camaro Convertible concept.

Hopefully Newport's work on the Camaro will be better then the others I've seen them do, but I won't hold my breath. Past conversions Toyota Prius, Toyota FJ Cruiser, Hummer H2 and Cadillac CTS haven't been encouraging.

You might remember Newport Convertible Engineering's work on the Mercedes-Benz CL AMG last month. The Camaro Convertible needs to look as close to the concept as possible! I'll let you know as soon as images and pricing information for the conversion is released.
