You’ve been putting it off long enough, but now the time has come: you need to get the engine out of your project car. Nobody could ever call this a small job, especially when space is at a premium, but this task is made a lot easier with access to a good engine hoist, and the Clarke CFC100 1 Tonne Folding Workshop Crane is one of the best in the business.

We’ll let the spec sheet do the talking here. With a four-stage extending jib, reaching out as far as 1170mm, it gives you access to a wide lifting range, and it’s safe and sturdy too thanks to its long legs and heavy-duty castors.

That’s all well and good, but what a crane really needs to be good at is lifting (surprising, we know). Thankfully, the CFC100 excels here too. With a one-tonne capacity, it’ll make light work of even the biggest, heftiest engines and gearboxes, with a top-notch hydraulic pump taking lots of the effort out for you.

The maximum lift height of 2010mm means even the tallest-bonneted vehicles are no match for the CFC100. A lifting hook, compatible with plenty of different slings and chains, is included, and it’s ready-made to work with Clarke’s CLL500 Load Leveller to keep whatever you’re lifting steady.

Best of all, when it’s not in use, the jib drops down, the legs fold up and the stabiliser bar can be lowered, bundling everything into a neat, compact package that can easily be stowed without taking up valuable space, so even if you’re working with a small home garage, you needn’t miss out on the CFC100’s features. Overall, we can’t imagine you’ll ever look back once you’ve tried it – just about the only thing it can’t do is help once you’ve actually got your engine out.
