Infiniti is doing well for itself lately, expanding the lineup and introducing lucrative new models like the mid-size M. For now, that car will serve as the brand's flagship.

There is also talk about a proper M coupe as well as a four-door coupe model to compete against the Audi A7 Sportback and Mercedes-Benz CLS.

Infiniti is also making moves at the other end of the spectrum however, introducing a new engine and lower price tag model for the G lineup.

Back in January, Edmunds Inside Line was the outlet to first confirm the introduction of a G with a smaller V-6. We've heard some rumors that the G lineup would be getting four-cylinder engines sourced from Mercedes. So far, that hasn't happened. We like the idea of a small six-cylinder better.

Inside Line said the G25 would make 210 horsepower, and the final number isn't too far off from that. The G25 makes 218 horsepower and 187 pound-feet of torque.

That is coupled to a standard seven-speed automatic. One of the great things about the Infiniti G, something that sets it apart from competitors (certainly at this price point) is that is is rear-wheel drive.

The 2.5-liter V6 model has been available in Japan since 2008. The smaller V-6 drops the standard price of entry for the G to $30,950.

The G25 comes standard with leather and power-adjustable seats, automatic climate control, six-speaker audio, 17-inch aluminum wheels, HID Xenon headlamps.

Not sure that horsepower figure on the G25 is to our liking, but the overall package is a good deal. Especially in this economy, lower prices carry more weight.

For those who don't want or need the extra power, we think the G25 will make an attractive option in the segment.
