According to LA Daily News, the driver of the speeding Hyundai Sonata - Alex Wilright, a former Olympic track hopeful - was the only person seriously injured in the crash. Four other people received minor injuries when Wilright - almost certainly speeding at the time - smashed head-on into a GMC Yukon in the left-turn lane on the other side of the road, flipping the Hyundai and sending the Yukon flying backwards in the process.

ouch that looks horrible I’m impressed no one died. I wonder what the driver was in such a rush to get to. Driving like that is just stupid.

That’s the fastest I’ve ever seen a Hyundai Sonata go.

They’re actually pretty quick. For a family sedan, most test drivers are shocked when they put their foot down.

I had a new Sonata for a rental, it wasn’t too shabby. Almost started liking it.

…Almost

Holy crap… how fast do you need to go to move a full size truck like that?

I’ve been through that intersection a number of times, seen a few people beat the red but not trying to do warp speed…

Inevitably, there will be some form of drug involved.

Exactly what I was thinking. A Yukon is, what, 2.5 TONNES? To move that thing with a tiny little compact car he must’ve been doing at least triple digit speeds.

Yeah I was rear ended yesterday afternoon and I think the guy was smoking marijuana because I smelled smoke, but not from a cigarette, and it was a skunk like smell so not weed, it smelled like burnt hay, and he looked like he was dozing off.

I did math… That truck moved about 40m (going by the length of a Yukon and counting out about how many “Yukon lengths” it moved). That means the car that plowed into it should have been going only about 22-25m/s or only about 80-90km/h

Still fast, but bot quite the blistering 150km/h pace everyone envisions. Remember that even thought there is about a ton and a half of difference in mass between them, even a smart car doing 90 would have seriously pushed that Yukon off to the side.

Jeez if you’re going to speed in traffic like that (don’t) at least be good at driving. Dude hit a stationary object. Atrocious driving…
