This Ex-Police Mustang Has A 1000bhp 2JZ Under The Hood

Take one early 1990s Mustang, swap out the engine and go nuts. That's the recipe one guy in America seems to have used to produce a fearsome drag strip weapon

We’ve spotted this 1992 Ford Mustang, a former cop car from Florida, that’s appeared on eBay in the US. It’s been, err, modified a bit, though. Check out that suspiciously fat back rubber.

The listing claims a frankly terrifying 1000bhp from a 2JZ GTE engine that replaced the original high-mileage 5.0-litre V8, presumably for the Japanese lump’s tuning potential.

This list of mods is long and detailed, crossing not just the upgraded ECU but almost every engine internal, from tougher pistons to better oil pumps, fuel rail and even the blow-off valve. And that’s just the engine. Transmission upgrades include, well, all of it. It seems to have been done properly. There are plenty of pictures to flick through on the listing.

There’s fully-adjustable suspension front and rear, huge brakes and a roll cage certified for running down to 8.5 seconds. And yes, it even has a parachute brake – handy for when the real cops roll into view while you’re trying a top speed run…

The seller, a chap called Manuel, says it’s never been run on the drag strip, despite it clearly having been built to compete. He’s asking $38,000 but says he’s willing to listen to offers. Any takers?

Well at least it’s not an LS swap. So that’s good.

This is better than an LS swap.

How does someone build a car like this, and then not run it on a drag strip? Sounds fishy to me. At the very least it had to have been street raced, or else the owner is nuts.

I agree with you but there’s some people that building cars is life, not so much running them. I know a guy that’ll build cars all week and on his off days drink beer and put together wire harnesses but never races or even mods his daily.
