edo competition's 550HP Aston Martin DBS
So here we have edo competition's idea (and yeah, it's all lower case, and yeah, I'm as puzzled as you are on why tuning firms have to monkey with stuff like that) on what really should have been done with Aston Martin's DBS.
So here we have edo competition's idea (and yeah, it's all lower case, and yeah, I'm as puzzled as you are on why tuning firms have to monkey with stuff like that) on what really should have been done with Aston Martin's DBS. The short answer is that edo feels that 550HP is what should have been done.
That's 550 ponies up from the stock 517 horsepower, which seems like a pretty respectable number as it sits, but why quibble? edo got to the almost triple nickel by ginning up an ECU reprogram and worked on the British car's breathing.
edo mounted new air filters, high-flow catalytic converters, and a trick new remote controlled exhaust system. The new bottom line is 550 horsepower and 600 Nm / 442 lb-ft of torque. That's +30 Nm / 22 lb-ft over the stock figure. edo says that "This is enough power to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds and continue on to a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph)."
Speaking of that trick exhaust. "
comes with a programmable control system that monitors backpressure inside the exhaust and opens the 70 mm butterfly valves when a pre-determined level of backpressure is exceeded," says edo. The exhaust is set up in this way to provide good torque at low engine speeds without effecting top end horsepower. "The driver can adjust the sound of the DBS at any time using a remote control," they added.
The wheels are whopping big 21 inches, and they are controlled via an adjustable sport suspension. Stopper-wise, edo completion has added 6-piston calipers clamping 405mm discs hanging on the front and 380mm discs do the whoaing up out back with 6 more pistons.
So yes, that's all very well and good, but I have to wonder what the ever-so reserved British take on all this is. Or is it a case of maybe the guys at Aston will think this is a good idea. One of the benefits to a manufacturer about letting tuners have at your car is lots of free press.
