It shows a car coming back onto the motorway, having just been âeducatedâ about lane discipline from Surrey Police, only to immediately ignore everything heâs just been told and pull right over to the outside lane of a completely empty stretch of carriageway. Was he listening? At all?
Judging by the hashtag used in the tweet about the driver was fined - needlessly hogging the middle and outside lanes of a motorway in the UK can leave you with an on-the-spot fine of ÂŁ100, plus three penalty points on your license.

Well that is an absolutely stellar illustration of how utterly ignorant most British drivers are. Sure, our driving standards are impeccable if youâre used to Paris or anywhere in Italy, but sometimes you just want to grab people by the ears, shake them hard and check theyâre even awake.

Not on a motorway, but we were allowed on a dual carriageway. The only difference is that a motorway has a hard shoulder. Motorway rules apply to a dual carriage way (lane discipline, speed limit etc.). From 2018 learners will be allowed on the motorway; anything with 2 or more lanes and a hard shoulder.
