Drayson Racing EV Smashes Quarter-Mile In 9.7Sec And Breaks World Record
Drayson Racing has broken the catchily-titled World Electric Land Speed Record for sub-999kg vehicles with an average speed of 205.139mph over 1 mile.
In a busy day at RAF Elvington in Yorkshire, the British team endured blustery conditions to send a number of records tumbling. As well as the 1 mile record (which also smashed the British Land Speed Record), the Lola also set a new record for the average speed over 1 kilometre, at 333.271kph.
On top of this, Drayson submitted FIA-sanctioned timed acceleration runs, setting a new World Electric Record over the quarter mile. From a standing start, it hit 92.383mph, crossing the line in 9.742 seconds.
This isn't the first time Drayson Racing has been in a record-breaking mood, and we doubt it'll be the last. Lord Drayson had hoped to test the ultimate limits of the EV at the Bonneville Salt Flats' 15-mile long track last month, however the event was cancelled due to flooding.
While we haven't got our hands on official footage from this latest record-breaking success, here's a video shot earlier this year in June when Drayson first cracked 200mph in his EV.
