I need some answers please, is that really an intake? (not so familiar with VW)
How did that happen?
How to prevent so much carbon build up?
Is there a danger of warping the intake?

EGR sends exhaust gas back into the intake causing the carbon to build up. Not just with VW, probably with any diesel. Closing off the EGR will greatly prevent this. You might need to get the EGR deleted from the engine management as well though, as the more modern engines will give a check engine light when the EGR is not working. I had that done on my car, good moment to have it tuned as well :D I don’t think you will warp the intake btw, at least not if it is a cast item, which will almost always be the case.
