The Volvo XC90 Has Finally Been Revealed, And It's Kind Of A Big Deal
After multiple teasers, the new Volvo XC90 has finally been unveiled, and it’s a hugely important motor for the Swedish manufacturer.
It is part of a massive £6.5 billion investment that sees it sit on an all-new Scalable Product Architecture platform, which will underpin a wide range of Volvo models. The sleek styling also showcases a new design direction, so expect to see those headlights and that prominent grille on all future Volvos.
The XC90 will only run 2.0-litre four-pot petrol and diesels, with a petrol-electric hybrid range topping T8 model. That car will have a turbocharged and supercharged engine powering the front wheels and an 80bhp electric motor running the rears for a combined 390bhp. Despite being the most powerful model, it’s also the most efficient, with a CO2 rating of just 60g/km. The top diesel model will run a twin-turbocharged unit making 222bhp.
The interior has also had a makeover, replacing a plethora of buttons with a central touchscreen so the dashboard is clean and clutter-free. There is an air of Scandinavian sophistication throughout, with a crystal glass gear lever and diamond-cut start/stop button. The top-of-the-range sound system comes in the form of a 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins unit, which features air-ventilated subwoofers that are integrated into the car’s structure to turn the whole interior into a giant subwoofer.
The Volvo XC90 will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October, with UK sales beginning in Spring 2015.
