It's Amazing No One Died In This Monstrous '200kmh' Audi RS3 Crash

This RS3 driver in Belgium is seen arriving at a T-junction at over 120mph, flying off into the scenery as a consequence

The Audi RS3 is an extremely capable car, but there’s absolutely nothing in its repertoire that can save you if you tear up to a T-junction at this kind of speed.

It isn’t clear whether 200kmh (124mph) was the speed at which the driver started braking or the speed at which the car went off the road (we’re guessing the latter), but either way the result is one annihilated RS3. Amazingly though, the driver lived to tell the tale. Score one for modern car safety.

If you’re wondering why there are race track style kerbs and barriers surrounding the road, that’s because this driver’s amazing lack of awareness was demonstrated on the former Chimay Street Circuit in Belgium. It was used for the Grand Prix des Frontières until the event was discontinued in 1972. Much of the circuit’s furniture survives to this day, with a shortened version of the original layout occasionally used for bike racing.

The rest of the time, it’s a regular, public road, where driving at over 120mph really isn’t a good idea…

I kind of hope his insurance doesn’t cover it. People that stupid shouldn’t be allowed to own such nice cars.

There’s no way his insurance will cover that. He was breaking so many laws it’s not even funny. Now he has to suffer the consequences for his stupidity

No way the insurance covers any of that. 200 km/h is way above the speed limit in Belgium. Even in Germany where there is no actual speed limit on the motorways you have limited insurance coverage if you drive above the advisory speed limit of 130 km/h.

All things aside, it’s nice that the driver survived and I hope he learned from that.
