Prices and official performance specs of the fastest ever Ford Focus RS have been revealed. And while we already knew they were going to be impressive, we’re truly blown away by what we’ve just been told.

For starters, you simply can’t help but admire the incredible performance numbers. The super-hatchback’s 2.3-litre turbocharged four-pot engine produces a maximum of 345bhp and 325lb ft of torque (between 2000 and 4500 rpm), which gives the RS enough grunt to launch its four wheels from 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds. Top speed is 165mph.

For some perspective, the Focus RS is a solid 1.0 seconds faster to 62mph, and 48bhp more powerful than its new arch rival, the Honda Civic Type R. Top speed for the Ford is 2mph down on the Honda’s 167mph number, but who’s counting when you’re fast approaching 170mph with a tail wind…

Performance aside, let’s take a look at the price. £28,940 makes the Focus RS one of the, if not the best value-for-money cars on the market today. By comparison, the slower, FWD Type R will set you back upwards of £29,995, and that’s already great value in itself.

Standard kit on the Focus RS includes launch control and Dynamic Torque Vectoring to ensure that all of its power is transferred to the tarmac without hesitation. To make sure that every driver gets the best out of each gear, the RS also features a performance shift light in the instrument cluster. The optimum shifting point is 6000rpm, ahead of the engine’s 6800rpm rev limit.
