Now here's something you don't see happen everyday! In a truly classy and unprecedented move, Steve Saleen has made the decision to honor warranties of the failed company that bears his name. Jim did a post on that ordeal last month.

It's clear that Mr. Saleen and his company SMS Supercars have no legal or moral obligation to assume these warranties. I mean, it's a failed with company car company new ownership, right? No matter, Steve Saleen and SMS Supercars have decided to stand by the cars that bear his name. Apparently Saleen wanted to make a statement. I think he succeeded!

The new owner, MJ Acquisitions stepped into acquire Saleen's assets but has announced that it will not honor warranties prior to the purchase date, only products sold afterwards. It was a definite misstep; who in the world would have confidence to buy vehicles from them now? Not me and I don't think anyone else.  In addition to scaring away new buyers, you alienate all of the customer base.

Saleen's new company SMS Supercars is preparing to a new model based on the 2010 Mustang, called the Signature Series SMS 460 Mustang. What car do you think Saleen's old customers will be buying? I'd imagine this move will engender a lot of goodwill from previous customers. Now their warranties are being covered!

Steve Saleen has had no involvement with the old company since the middle of 2007 and certainly is not in approval of anything the new company is doing. SMS Supercars is the only the company that sells cars with Steve Saleen's approval and for a lot of people, that really matters.

I wonder what the new company is thinking after seeing this.  I don't know but I wouldn't expect too bright of a future for them.

Nice move! Great way to build loyalty by just doing the right thing. I'm sure the company will be rewarded when customers go to make a future purchase.
