Back in 2007, the original Spada Codatronca was unveiled, based on the Chevrolet Corvette platform. Spada is an Italian coachbuilding company founded by Erco Spada and his son Paolo.
The original pumped 600 horsepower from its 7-liter LS7 V-8, giving the Codatronca to 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds. Fast forward a few years and Spada is unveiling the convertible model Codatronca Monza.
This time, the car packs 700 hp and hits 62 mph in 3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 208 mph! Impressive performance, no doubt - and this is using the LS7 V-8 from the Corvette.
Impressive performance is thanks to its low curb weight of just 2,600 pounds. The low weight figure is achieved by a body made from composite and a tubular aluminum chassis coated in carbon fiber underneath from composite.
The car's design is said to evoke classic roadsters from the 1960s - to us though the Codatronca is as wacky as ever, looking more futuristic than anything. The interior is completely stripped down, built to racing specification.
The unveiling of the Codatronca Monza isn't the announcement of a new production variant for Spada, but it serves as nearly the same thing. The Monza was commissioned by a Aznom, who wanted a "special car dedicated to the Monza circuit for show in all the luxury events and to strengthen the connection between the world of car design."
Spada says it will build more to order, in a less extreme (street legal) Spyder form. We've got a few photos of the new roadster in our gallery below. It will be interesting to see what changes Spada makes to the more sedate production Spyder version.
