£6k Coupe Sexiness: Italy Vs Germany

Italians have truly perfected the finer things in life; good food, slick style and beautiful cars are all part of their DNA. Our Italian friends don’t worry about such mundane things as politics or health and safety and we love ‘em for it...

2004 Alfa Romeo GTV

Sadly, while they seem nigh incapable of creating cars that aren’t boxer-moisteningly gorgeous, we doubt that they engineer their wheels with the same obsessive devotion. And we suspect that owning a used Alfa is a daily game of Russian roulette, leaving you guessing which bits will fall off each day.

For sheer automotive porn the Alfa Romeo GTV takes some beating though. This Pininfarina-scribbled coupe looks like it’s been carved by the hands of whatever God gambols around above the clouds. And under the bonnet the muscular 3.2-litre engine is just as beautifully sculpted with glistening metal and shapely contours – handy when you consider how much time you’ll spend staring at it when the GTV inevitably breaks down.

For a grand total of £6250 you can get your hands on one of the last 3.2-litre GTVs from 2004 boasting an epic-sounding V6 motor, a limited-slip differential for agile handling and a psychedelic red leather interior.

Don’t think the GTV is the only small coupe with a musical 3.2-litre V6 for the money, though. For the same dough you can get your hands on this grey Audi TT powered by a meaty 3.2-litre V6, which is plumbed into VW’s Germanically efficient DSG auto gearbox.

Despite their different nationalities, this 2004 vintage TT is pretty damn similar to our saucy Alfa weighing in at around one and a half tonnes, armed with just over 240 energetic ponies under the bonnet and with a touch over 70,000 miles on the clock. Where the Audi differs is with its Quattro four-wheel drive and automatic DSG gearbox.

But what would you part with £6k for – Italian sex appeal or German technology? Vorrei il GTV, per favore…
