Nurburgring Bosses Might Be Scrapping Speed Limits Already

It was only two weeks ago that news emerged of manufacturers being effectively banned from setting lap records at the Green Hell thanks to a series of speed limits. However, it seems a U-turn is already in progress.

An “industry source” has told Road & Track that the limits are due to be lifted for manufacturers by Capricorn Nürburgring GmbH, the company that owns and operates the circuit. Should this be true, we’ll finally get a chance to see if the Koenigsegg One:1 is fast enough to steal the Porsche 918’s fastest production car lap time at the circuit. The Swedish supercar company had its original plans to run the bonkers ‘megacar’ at the ‘Ring thwarted by the restrictions.

The ban came into effect as a result of the tragic accident at a VLN race several months ago in which the Nissan GT-R of Jann Mardenborough became airborne and cleared a fence, killing a spectator in the process. One of the speed restrictions covers the ‘Flugplatz’ section of the circuit, where the accident occured.
