In creating the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss (wow, that one's a mouthful), it's clear they created something truly special and unique.

This is for all intents and purposes, a show car, destined for collector status and permanent garaging. Only 75 are to be built, made available to existing SLR customers only.

SLR McLaren production ends in May 2009, with Stirling Moss production commencing afterwards between June and December 2009.

Like Bugatti in my recent article, with the McLaren-Mercedes run of cars ending, McLaren will have none of their vehicles on the market to sell. This model extends things out a bit while also helping to make a nice profit, as at €950,000 Euros (works out to a bit under $1 million, at current exchange rates).

The "P11" is slated to come sometime around 2010, so I'd expect to be hearing about it soon. That would fit nicely into the production timeline, no accident I'm sure.

Check out the gullwing doors! It's definitely not your run of the mill supercar (if there is such such a thing). While a bit odd, something about it just seems extremely cool.

It's also somewhat retro as well, paying homage to the legendary 300 SLR of 1955. That car was drove to victory in the 1955 Italian Mille Miglia race by British racing driver Stirling Moss, hence the name.

There is no side windows or roof; all that's protecting the driver is two small (and barely visible) windscreens. According to Mercedes, they're strategically placed to direct wind away from the drivers faces.

If the SLR Stirling Moss looks especially long, it's an optical illusion of sorts. It all seems so bullet-like due to the lack of visual breakup. Almost unreal!

Barebones to say the least! The radio and telephone interface have been taken out to save weight. Minimalist to say the least, along with the whole car.

Imagine seeing one of these on the road. Would be quite a sight. But what are the chances of that? Next to zero, especially in the U.S, since there are no plans to make it available here. Think those windscreens have anything to do with that? Maybe just something.

The SLR McLaren is powered by a 5.5L V8 unit making 650HP and manufactured by hand at the Mercedes-AMG "Motorenmanufaktur" engine production facility in Affalterbach, Germany.

The SLR McLaren Stirling Moss is truly a unique creation in motoring history, with each coming with an aluminum plaque listing vehicle build number and Stirling Moss's signature.

Like I said earlier, if you want one you first have to be an SLR McLaren owner and second, $1,000,000. Better hurry, I'd imagine the 75 unit run will be selling out fairly quickly!
