Honda’s Incredible Project 2&4 Won’t Be Going Into Production Any Time Soon

Last September, Honda launched a mind-blowing concept car that made the Ariel Atom look tame. We all prayed this motorbike-inspired, MotoGP-engined, bare-bones sports car might be made a production reality, but nothing has been confirmed.

With around six months gone since the concept first landed, our curiosity got the better of us, and we thought we’d try and find out what the chances of a production version are. Speaking exclusively to Car Throttle, the car’s designer - Martin Petersson - said: “the 2&4 has been designed with such a small niche, the real enthusiast customer in mind, that within the bigger picture of the Honda product line-up it’s not the priority at the moment.” Not exactly the news we wanted, I’m sure you’ll agree.

If it did happen, Petersson tells us that to become a proper production car, “mostly safety related changes would be required,” and that it could indeed end up with a MotoGP-derived engine. “There are a few engine options from the motorcycle side which could be interesting, but the RC213V or RC213V-S is the lightest and would fit the best,” he explains.

It’s important to note that putting it into production hasn’t yet been ruled out, and it helps that the concept has been well received. “We have been very happy with the reception and feedback from the motor shows and in the press. It has given a good base for us in the development team to continue pushing this project; we still keep the dream alive and hope to one day see the 2&4 on the road!”

So in other words, don’t bank on it, but keep your fingers crossed…

They’d have to add safety stuff to make it legal? Naw, that looks plenty safe as is!

But why? They could turn it into an kit car and call it a day. Beside its rare to see new kit cars in the market today.

When dealing with sports cars and racing or ish, honda always wanted to be the best its own way. They can just throw a 25% finished car and let the after market and others do the rest of the job but they never will

Want better safety? Buy a Caterham, Zenos, Ariel Atom, KTM Crossbow, so on and so forth. Although the ACTUAL reason I’d suggest these is because they already exist. And are seen on British roads but not on our roads, because ‘People doesn’t allow cars that have 1000BHP(Veyron), LHD Cars(basically all Lancia’s of the 80’s), and cars with NO roof whatsoever(Caterham, KTM Crossbow, blah blah blah) and aren’t very safe.’Though I can see why for the cases like the LHD thing, and maybe the Caterham no roof case/safety concerns. But why…Why..Why don’t we get the same selection of cars as the rest of the world do?
