Gordon Murray Has Designed The World's First Flat Pack Vehicle
This curious-looking little runt is the Global Vehicle Trust Ox, and designer Gordon Murray ranks it ahead of anything else he’s ever worked on in terms of importance. For the man behind dominant Grand Prix racing cars and the McLaren F1, that’s a big statement, but it’s easy to see what he means: the Ox could help mobilise some of the most remote parts of the developing world.
Despite being smaller than most SUVs, the Ox can carry nearly two tonnes of cargo. Or if you want to carry some humans around, the Ox can take a total of 13 thanks to bench seating in the rear. Powering the whole shebang is a 2.2-litre diesel engine, good for 98bhp.
Most importantly though, the whole flat pack part of the deal means you can stuff six of the things inside a standard shipping container. Once it’s at the destination, it takes about 11 and a half hours to assemble by three untrained people.
It’s only at the prototype stage however: Global Vehicle Trust needs further investment before the Ox can go into production. One to watch with interest…

it even comes with towing attachment
I can just imagine the Brochures: ‘Have three people? Have 11 hours to spare? Well, GOOD NEWS! We’ve released a car that makes use of both of these things! Yours now for many-a-pound!’
Whatever happened to the Caterham?
It looks really similar to the 1976 Volkswagen T200 truck that was sold here in Mexico as “Hormiga”
It really does
I guess Gordon Murray never heard of the VW Hormiga https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_EA489_Basistransporter
This is the definition of a “Box on wheels”
OMG ARE THOSE TRANSIT RIMS???!!! DAAAAAAAAMMMMNNN
to me it looks like the rest of the world discovering the power of good suspension, and how 4wheel drive is not superior/ needed for everything.
If ikea made a truck
Budget daily anyone?
I’m hoping for a Rallycross style class for the OX, even a Dakar version.
