Turning to things we can actually buy, the Focus is showing off its performance side with the ST and the ST-R. While the ST is a hot hatch that slots in just below the RS (which is in the works for the future), the ST-R is a racing car. As in, it isn’t street legal. It is a North American-exclusive for now, which is nice to hear for once.

Ford Racing specially outfitted the car, which is based on the production ST. Ford says it was purpose-built. Let’s see what this thing has to offer. The ST’s powerful 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, an FIA regulation roll cage, uprated brakes and a modified suspension.

The Focus ST-R is already homologated for touring car racing in the United States and Canada, which means it qualifies for entry into the Grand-Am ST, World Challenge TC and Canadian Touring Car Series.. There is a powerful allure with the ST-R; the car is turn-key and parts are made more plentiful and inexpensive thanks to its sharing with the production ST. How cool is this? Ford is playing it smart here; having the car compete in racing all around the world will build brand image for the Focus ST lineup. The car will initially be available to Ford’s U.S dealers by “seasoned hardcore professional drivers, amateur racers and track day enthusiasts.” When? Ford just says it will be soon. Stay tuned. For now check out images of the ST, ST Wagon and ST-R Racing model in our gallery below.
