File this under 'More Good News for Ford' because it seems that Dearborn's finest has just been given Motor Trend's Car of the Year award for their Ford Fusion. Yes, I know, we are talking Motor Trend here, a magazine that, despite its circulation numbers, it's the first source a gearhead will turn to.
And yes, Motor Trend's Car of the Year award has had its fair share of controversies, but that doesn't make the Ford Fusion a bad car. Indeed it's not, apparently. A lot of people have been saying good things about all models of the Fusion, and they have especially heaped praise on its Hybrid variant.
And it's not just people like us, I started to pay attention to the Ford Fusion Hybrid when I noticed that a lot of taxis were Fusion Hybrids. Speaking of trials by fire, if the fusion can withstand that sort of pounding, then they must be screwing them together right.
To show just how hip, now, with-it and fab the guys at Motor Trend are, they made a big deal of pointing out that "For the first time ever, Motor Trend announced the winner of its annual Car of the Year award this afternoon live via webcast. " You know, so they can reach all of those kids out there with their Bookfaces and Nintendo-pods.
The Fusion beat out a field of 23 contenders was highly competitive this year. The Fusion also had to beat out some of its company stable-mates like the Taurus and Mustang, which were all in the running. But when Motor Trend was done deciding, the Fusion was the ride that was awarded the Golden Calipers.
And you know, it's hard to fault their choice. The Fusion was considerably revised for 2010 and includes a new exterior design, new models and new powertrains t'boot. FoMoCo has a four-cylinder model, two stout V6 mills as options and a very well done parallel hybrid, so it looks like there's a Fusion out there for everyone.
