Details Surface On C63 AMG Black Edition
Black Series - AMG speak for "wickeder than normal." And considering most AMG Benz's have a copious dose of wicked in the first place, anything with the Black Series label is usually a bit nutty.
Black Series - AMG speak for "wickeder than normal." And considering most AMG Benz's have a copious dose of wicked in the first place, anything with the Black Series label is usually a bit nutty. There was the lightweight, tail-happy CLK63 Black, and the 661bhp SL65 Black, so what's next for Benz's top label?
Turns out it's a C-class Coupe. The Coupe is a recent addition to the C-class lineup, and it takes the lower end of the market that the CLK used to inhabit - the other end being occupied by the (also-new) E-Class Coupe. In addition to the C250 (Turbo 4) and C350 (V6) as well as the "normal" C63 AMG Coupe, pictures surfaced recently of AMG's next "Black" project - a lightened, widebody, very angry C63 AMG Coupe.
The Black Series bodykit manages to fix the main problem with the C-Class - it's not aggressive-looking at all, appearing more Accord Coupe than 3-series fighter. The flared arches, brake ducts and vents, angry front valence, and carbon rear valence housing what looks like a quartet of exhaust pipes might be a bit overdone, but the C-Coupe was far too understated in the first place - even in AMG form.
Power wise, the AMG 63 Black Series retains the outgoing 6.2L 32v AMG-designed V8 (even though the E, CL, CLS, and S class are all using the new 5.5L Biturbo AMG V8) in higher output trim than the normal 63. While the regular model produces 451 horsepower and 443lb-ft (481 and 443 with the AMG performance pack; basically an SLS AMG crankshaft, rods and pistons plus a tune), the Black is rumored to pump out 517bhp and 472lb-ft. Not a huge gain, but the rumored weight reduction (from the 86'd rear seats, carbon fibre stuff, etc) should boost the power-to-weight ratio.
The inside looks great, too - a set of fixed-back single piece racing buckets clad in leather and alcantara with red harnesses compliment red stitching, black leather, and chrome trim. It's otherwise standard C-class inside, which admittedly isn't a bad place to be. These are all the details we have on the upcoming C63 AMG Black, but with the cat already out of the bag, I don't expect it'll be too long before Mercedes dishes the dirt on their latest Teutonic hotrod. Stay posted!
