Audi's recent success has been startling. The brand has gone from a bit of an also-ran in the luxury segment to one of the leading contenders in just a small space of time. Momentum has been created with new vehicles like the A5, Q5 and redesigned A4.

As such, the company has crossed a very important milestone - over two million vehicles sold in the United States.

Audi started selling its very first cars, the Super 90 and 100, 40 years ago. With record sales this quarter, something tells us it will take far less than that amount of time to hit the next 2 million Audis.

The milestone was crossed in late June, and the vehicle was a Audi A3 TDI sold to a first-time customer in Van Nuys, California.

Since 2000, Audi says the brand has over doubled its model count in the U.S. market and tripled the number of variants it offers. And it doesn't end there! Audi is gearing up for the launch of yet another model on Monday, the highly-important A7 Sportback.

The car is part of a new Sportback model line by Audi, with the A7 aiming to go against the Mercedes-Benz CLS in the "four door coupe" segment. We can't wait for Monday to check out the A7 Sportback.
